A Great Willow glows with the luminous quality of medieval stained glass, its sweeping branches dividing the scene into intimate, quiet moments. As a young woman reads and a fisherman casts his nets, a mother and child observe the gentle rhythm of the shoreline. Bound together by the drifting melody of a shawm, the figures form a living meditation on connection, observation, and the peaceful flow of everyday life.

The composition uses a unique modular wood block design that creates a window-like perspective. Mitts combines contempory structure with 16th Century Renaissance influences. Using a meticulous layering of acrylic washes and gels, he achieves a textured, stained glass finish. This piece is created on 100-year-old reclaimed grain bin wood, making the material as much a part of the story as the painting itself. Measures 20 x 20 x 1/2 inches deep.
