This original painting by Alberta artist Steve R. Mitts features a mixed-media presentation, where the acrylic painting spills onto an inner border of reclaimed wooden slats. With its backdrop of a looming stone abbey and a "frame-within-a-frame" composition, the artwork evokes a sense of solitude, storytelling, and ancient memory.

The composition uses a unique modular wood block design that creates a window-like perspective. Mitts combines contempory structure with 16th Century Renaissance influences. Using a meticulous layering of acrylic washes and gels, he achieves a textured, stained glass finish. This piece is created on 100-year-old reclaimed grain bin wood, making the material as much a part of the story as the painting itself. Measures 12 x 12 x 1 1/4 inches deep.
